Grace Ice&Water Shield Product Description
Grace Ice&Water Shield is a premium self-adhered roofing underlayment consisting of two waterproofing materials: an aggressive rubberized asphalt adhesive covered with a slip-resistant, high-density cross-laminated polyethylene film. The rubberized asphalt surface is protected by a foldable release paper that preserves its adhesive properties. During installation, the release paper can be easily removed, allowing the rubberized asphalt to bond securely to the roof deck. The Ripcord® embedded in the adhesive allows installers to achieve “Split Release on Demand.”
Benefits
Seals Around Fasteners — The rubberized asphalt layer in GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® membrane seals around fasteners, helping resist leaks caused by water backing up behind ice dams or wind-driven rain.
Superior Adhesion to the Roof Deck — The self-adhered membrane bonds securely to the roof deck without requiring heat or special adhesives.
Waterproof Barrier — The membrane easily forms a waterproof barrier without requiring special treatment.
Protection Beneath All Standard Sloped Roofing Materials — GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® roofing underlayment provides protection beneath slate, tile, cedar, and metal roofing, as well as conventional asphalt shingles.
Proven Performance — GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® roofing underlayment is a trusted brand with more than 35 years of experience protecting roofs against ice dams and wind-driven rain.
Ripcord — The Split Release on Demand feature makes GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® underlayment easier to install. It allows faster installation of the membrane in straight lines and makes positioning easier in specific areas, such as roof valleys, around skylights, and other detailed locations.
Slip-Resistant Surface — GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® self-adhered membrane features an embossed, slip-resistant surface designed to provide enhanced traction and maximum safety for installers.
Reroofable — Unlike membranes with granular surfaces, the smooth surface of GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® membrane does not adhere to the underside of exposed roofing materials. GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® membrane can be installed over existing GCP self-adhered membranes in retrofit applications, making reroofing easier, less expensive (because the existing membrane does not need to be removed), more durable, and more environmentally friendly (because the roof deck structure remains intact, eliminating the need to purchase additional wood decking).
Membrane Will Not Crack, Dry Out, or Rot — GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® roofing underlayment resists fungal and bacterial attack, maintaining its integrity for long-lasting protection.
Local Technical Support — GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® roofing underlayment is supported by local technical support representatives who help ensure that every application proceeds smoothly.
Applications
GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® membrane is used as an underlayment for sloped roofs to resist water penetration caused by water backing up behind ice dams or wind-driven rain. GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® membrane also helps prevent leaks in vulnerable areas, such as roof valleys, skylights, protrusions, and other locations requiring flashing.
