Triflex DeckFloor Heavy-Duty Floor Coating System for Parking Structures Subjected to High Mechanical Loads
Triflex DeckFloor is a thick-layer waterproof floor coating system with static crack-bridging properties, developed for parking structures subjected to heavy traffic. It is particularly suitable for naturally ventilated intermediate parking decks and can also be used as a coating system for parking garage roof decks. The system uses fast-curing PMMA resin, helping reduce downtime and disruption to traffic within the building.
Key Features of Triflex DeckFloor
Thick-layer floor coating system with static crack-bridging properties
High resistance to mechanical stresses and heavy vehicle traffic
Strong, wear-resistant layer that helps extend the intervals between floor refurbishments
System build-up thickness of only a few millimeters
Total system weight of less than 10 kg/m²
Suitable for various substrates, including asphalt surfaces with adequate structural strength
Provides a slip-resistant surface that maintains its performance even after prolonged use
Faster curing compared to epoxy or polyurethane resin-based systems
Allows installation work to be divided into sections to minimize parking garage downtime
Joints and construction details can be reinforced with fleece to create a continuous, seamless waterproofing layer
Suitable Applications for Triflex DeckFloor
Triflex DeckFloor is suitable for areas subjected to vehicle loads and continuous use, such as:
Intermediate floors of multi-storey parking garages
Naturally ventilated parking structures
Parking garage roof decks
High-traffic parking areas
Interior vehicle access lanes
Entrances and exits
Existing concrete or asphalt floors requiring refurbishment
Areas where maintenance downtime needs to be minimized
The system is designed to withstand high mechanical loads but provides static crack-bridging performance. This differs from systems specifically designed to accommodate continuously moving cracks. Therefore, the nature of existing cracks and structural movement must be evaluated before selecting the system.
General System Structure
Triflex DeckFloor is available in different system configurations depending on the existing substrate, traffic loads, and project requirements. An example of Variation 1 consists of the following main layers:
1. Primer Layer
The primer must be selected according to the substrate type, such as:
Triflex Cryl Primer 222 for asphalt substrates, with a minimum consumption of approximately 0.40 kg/m²
Triflex Cryl Primer 287 for absorbent substrates such as concrete, screeds, or wood, with a minimum consumption of approximately 0.35 kg/m²
Triflex Metal Primer for metal and rusted surfaces, with a consumption of approximately 0.15 L/m²
Triflex Glass Primer for unabraded glass surfaces, with a consumption of approximately 0.05 L/m²
Triflex Pox Primer 116+ for priming, surface sealing, and leveling surface irregularities, with a consumption of approximately 0.30–0.40 kg/m²
These consumption rates are based on smooth, even surfaces. Actual consumption may increase depending on substrate roughness, absorbency, and existing surface conditions.
2. Triflex DeckFloor Coating Layer
Triflex DeckFloor serves as the main coating layer for surfaces subjected to heavy-duty use. It provides a highly durable coating and can also be used as a leveling layer or scratch coat within parking structures.
For Variation 1, the manufacturer specifies a minimum consumption of approximately 4 kg/m² on smooth, even surfaces.
3. Wear-Resistant and Finishing Layer
The finishing layer can use Triflex Cryl Finish 209 to enhance resistance to mechanical stresses and chemicals, with a consumption of approximately 0.50–0.70 kg/m², depending on the application area and service requirements.
The system also incorporates quartz sand with a particle size of approximately 0.7–1.2 mm to create surface texture, improve slip resistance, and help reduce the risk of slipping for vehicles and pedestrians.
4. Waterproofing System for Details and Joints
At walls, columns, floor edges, drainage outlets, structural joints, and settlement joints, Triflex ProDetail can be used in combination with Triflex Special Fleece to provide reinforcement and create a continuous waterproofing layer.
Triflex ProDetail has a minimum consumption of approximately 3 kg/m² on smooth surfaces. The reinforcing fleece enhances strength and helps control the thickness of the waterproofing layer.
Joint Waterproofing System
Although Triflex DeckFloor is a waterproof floor coating system, complete waterproofing performance across the entire area depends on proper waterproofing installation at joints, structural details, and settlement joints.
These areas must be continuously connected to the main coating system and reinforced with fleece according to the system specifications to prevent water penetration through corners, floor edges, or moving joints.
Fast Installation and Reduced Downtime
The resin used in the system can cure within a few hours, allowing floor coating work to be divided into sections and multiple installation stages to be completed within the same day, depending on site conditions.
This helps reduce the time parking spaces, entrances, and traffic routes must remain closed, making the system suitable for parking structures that cannot be completely shut down for extended periods. However, actual reopening times depend on temperature, substrate preparation, system configuration, and the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Color Design and Area Zoning
The Triflex system is available in a wide range of colors, allowing floor finishes to improve the appearance and organization of parking structures, such as:
Using different colors to identify parking levels
Defining individual parking spaces
Creating pedestrian walkways
Designating vehicle traffic routes
Marking special parking areas
Highlighting areas requiring extra caution
Color-coded zoning helps users navigate parking structures and locate their vehicles more easily while improving visibility and safety within the building.
Standards and Certifications
Triflex DeckFloor complies with the requirements for Class OS 13 and OS 8 surface protection systems in accordance with German standards and guidelines for the protection and repair of concrete structures.
The system is also classified as Bfl-s1 for reaction to fire in accordance with DIN EN 13501-1, which defines the fire performance classification of flooring materials.
Considerations Before Installation
The existing substrate must be sound, clean, dry, and free from dust, oil, grease, loose existing paint, or contaminants that may reduce adhesion performance.
Before installation, substrate strength, moisture content, cracks, surface evenness, slopes, drainage systems, and joint movement should be inspected. The compatibility of the system with the existing substrate should also be tested, particularly for asphalt surfaces or substrates with existing coatings.
