Supercast SW20 Product Description
Supercast SW20 is manufactured from high-performance synthetic elastomeric strips. Swelling occurs when water comes into contact with the hydrophilic groups that form part of the molecular structure of the Supercast SW10 base polymer.
These hydrophilic groups are not extracted or depleted, and their swelling performance is not affected by prolonged or repeated exposure to water. This is a unique characteristic of the base polymer. The expansion of the waterstop creates positive pressure against the surfaces of the concrete joint, preventing water from passing through the protected joint.
Product Description
Supercast SW20 is a swellable waterstop that can be effectively installed and connected to conventional Supercast PVC Waterstop systems. This allows Supercast PVC Waterstops to be used for expansion joints and Supercast SW20 for construction joints while maintaining the continuity of the entire waterproofing system.
Supercast SW20 is manufactured from high-performance synthetic elastomeric strips that expand upon contact with water, helping prevent water leakage through concrete joints.
Features / Benefits
Easy installation by adhesive bonding, nailing, or embedding into the surface of concrete joints
Factory-fabricated junction pieces allow Supercast SW20 and Supercast PVC Waterstop systems to be fully integrated
Provides solutions for complex joint waterproofing design and installation when used in combination with Supercast PVC products
Swelling properties are not affected by prolonged alternating wet and dry cycles
Resistant to salts present in concrete and groundwater
Maintains effective watertight sealing performance even under wet conditions
Applications
Supercast SW20 is used to prevent water leakage through construction joints in cast in-situ concrete structures, particularly in confined areas where installing conventional waterstops is difficult.
The product provides an effective solution for complex installation areas where conventional waterstops may require complicated concrete formwork arrangements.
Suitable Areas and Structures
Basement structures with secant pile walls
Diaphragm walls
Pile foundations and pile caps
Connections between newly placed concrete and existing concrete structures
Waterproofing around pipe penetrations through concrete structures
Vertical construction joints
Joints at the base of walls or kicker joints
Supercast SW20 can be connected to Supercast PVC Waterstop systems to create an integrated and effective waterproofing system while maintaining waterproofing continuity throughout the structure.
Standards Compliance
Supercast SW20 is suitable for use in structures that come into contact with drinking water. It is approved under the Water Byelaws Scheme as an Approved Product, Registration No. 9312507.
Working Principle of Supercast SW20
The swelling action of Supercast SW20 occurs when water comes into contact with the hydrophilic groups that form part of the molecular structure of the product’s base polymer.
These hydrophilic groups are not washed out or depleted and retain their swelling properties even after prolonged water exposure or repeated wet and dry cycles. This is a unique characteristic of the polymer used in the product.
When the waterstop comes into contact with water, it expands and generates pressure against the surfaces of the concrete joint, creating a tight sealing pressure within the joint. This effectively prevents water from passing through the protected concrete joint.
