Betec M-5

(+15% Vat Included)

BETEC™ M-5 is a specialized powdered blend of cement, quartz sand, and active chemical agents designed to protect concrete against water ingress. It provides deep-seated waterproofing and permanent protection against water penetration driven by osmotic pressure. By reacting with moisture and lime present within the concrete, it forms crystals that seal pores and capillaries, thereby waterproofing and damp-proofing both new and existing structures.

    Betec M-5 Product Description

Betec M-5 is a specially formulated blend of cement, quartz sand, and active chemicals in powder form, designed to protect concrete against water penetration. BETEC M-5 provides deep waterproofing and permanent protection against water ingress through an osmotic process. It reacts with moisture and free lime in concrete to form insoluble crystals that seal pores and capillaries, providing waterproofing and damp-proofing protection for both new and existing structures.

Betec M-5 can be applied using three different methods:

    1. Slurry Application: Applied using a brush or spray equipment to initiate a crystallization process that penetrates deep into the concrete, providing waterproofing protection for post-construction applications.

    2. Dry Powder Application: The dry powder is broadcast onto lean concrete before casting the concrete slab or directly onto freshly poured concrete surfaces.

    3. Concrete Additive: The product is added during concrete mixing to accelerate the formation and growth of crystals within the concrete matrix, enhancing its waterproofing properties.

    Product Advantages

    – Provides long-term waterproofing performance, even under high hydrostatic pressure, including both positive and negative water pressure.

    – Integrates fully with the concrete matrix, becoming an integral part of the concrete structure.

    – Prevents water penetration deep within the concrete through the formation of insoluble crystals that penetrate the capillary system. The crystallization process begins at the surface and gradually progresses deeper into the concrete over time.

    – Helps reduce shrinkage and the formation of hairline cracks.

    – Capable of sealing small cracks that may develop due to subsequent shrinkage or settlement, including non-moving static cracks.

    – Can be applied to damp substrates when used as a waterproofing slurry coating.

    – Non-toxic and odorless.

    Applications

    • Building floors, basement walls, and concrete slabs

    • Swimming pools and decorative water features

    • Bathrooms, balconies, wet areas, and planter boxes

    • Water-retaining structures

    • Car park decks

    Installation by Slurry Application

    Surface Preparation

    – All holes and cavities must be properly prepared and filled with a suitable repair mortar from GCP Applied Technologies to achieve a smooth and level surface. Mortar joints must be finished flush with the surrounding surface.

    – Remove all traces of bitumen, oil, grease, dirt, and other contaminants from the substrate using a wire brush and high-pressure water cleaning.

    – Remove or trim all protrusions from the surface.

    – Pre-dampen or thoroughly moisten the substrate with water before application.

    Mixing

    – Mix Betec M-5 with water at a water-to-cement ratio of 1:2.5.

    – Mix thoroughly until a smooth, homogeneous slurry is obtained, free from lumps.

    – Use a trowel to scrape any unmixed material from the sides of the mixing container and incorporate it back into the mixture.

    – The mixed material should be used within 20 minutes, and preferably no later than 30 minutes. If the mixture begins to stiffen, it may be stirred again to restore its slurry consistency. However, do not add any additional water under any circumstances.

    Application

    – Apply the first coat of the prepared Betec M-5 mixture onto the properly prepared substrate using a brush, trowel, rubber squeegee, or roller. Work the material thoroughly into the surface to ensure full contact and penetration into the substrate.
