Triflex Metal Coat Corrosion Protection System for Extending the Service Life of Metal Roofs
Triflex Metal Coat is a protective coating system specifically developed for metal roofs. It helps protect surfaces against corrosion, rust, weather-related deterioration, and mechanical stresses that roofs are exposed to over time. The system is suitable for refurbishing existing metal roofs without removing the entire roofing system, helping reduce both installation time and demolition costs.
Triflex Metal Coat System Characteristics
Triflex Metal Coat is a one-component, water-based coating. Once applied, it forms a flexible polymer coating that covers roof surfaces, scratches, and dents, helping reduce the risk of cracking, blistering caused by rust, and surface flaking.
The coating provides excellent edge coverage on metal surfaces and contains anti-corrosion pigments that enhance protection against rust formation. It is also available in various colors to suit the architectural appearance of different buildings.

Suitable Applications
Triflex Metal Coat is suitable for coating and refurbishing metal roof surfaces, particularly those on industrial buildings, factories, warehouses, commercial buildings, and other structures with metal roofing sheets.
In addition to roofing applications, the system may also be considered for other metal structures exposed to weather conditions and corrosion risks, such as:
Metal sheet roofs
Metal roofs of factories and warehouses
Sawtooth roofs
Exterior metal structures
Metal wall cladding and façades
Metal tanks and containers
Pipes and equipment in industrial systems
Before applying the system to structures other than roofs, the suitability of the substrate and system specifications should be verified with the manufacturer or a trained applicator.
Roof Joint and Detail Waterproofing System
Joints, overlapping metal sheets, roof edges, screws, fixing points, and other details prone to water leakage are treated using Triflex ProDetail, a fleece-reinforced liquid waterproofing system. This ensures continuous waterproofing protection across joints and construction details while accommodating movement of the metal sheets.
According to the manufacturer, Triflex ProDetail used within the system meets the performance requirements of ETAG 005. This allows the metal roofing system to benefit from both surface corrosion protection and waterproofing at critical details.
Approximate Consumption Rates
For surface coating with Triflex Metal Coat, the total consumption is approximately 600–800 g/m², applied in two coats over the entire surface.
Triflex Metal Primer, used for priming metal or rusted surfaces, has an approximate consumption rate of 0.15 L/m². Actual consumption may vary depending on substrate conditions, surface roughness, application methods, and project specifications.
Basic Installation Procedure
The installation of the Triflex Metal Coat system involves the following main steps:
Remove severe rust, deteriorated metal surfaces, and any existing coatings that are no longer sound.
Clean oil, grease, and dirt using a suitable cleaning agent.
Apply Triflex Metal Primer to rusted or metal surfaces as specified by the system.
Apply tape over overlapping metal sheet joints to improve their ability to accommodate expansion.
Install the fleece-reinforced Triflex ProDetail waterproofing system at joints and construction details.
Apply two coats of Triflex Metal Coat over the entire surface using a roller or airless spray equipment.
Once installed, the system forms a flexible protective coating that helps prevent rust, corrosion, and flaking of metal surfaces.
Surface Preparation
Before installation, the substrate must be sound, clean, and free from oil, grease, dust, loose rust, and any unstable existing paint or coatings. If the surface is severely corroded, all deteriorated materials must be removed before application.
Areas contaminated with oil should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. Rusted surfaces must be primed with Triflex Metal Primer before applying the main coating to ensure proper adhesion and corrosion protection.
Considerations Before Application
Triflex Metal Coat is a corrosion protection coating system for metal roof surfaces. However, joints, overlapping sheets, roof edges, and penetrations must be treated separately using the specified waterproofing materials, such as Triflex ProDetail.
The condition of existing metal sheets, supporting structures, severity of corrosion, and compatibility of existing paint or coatings should be assessed before installation. If metal surfaces have deteriorated to the point of losing structural strength, the damaged materials may need to be repaired or replaced before applying the coating system.
