Mapefoam

(+15% Vat Included)

Mapefoam is a closed-cell polyethylene foam backer rod designed to be placed at the base of joints before the application of flexible sealants. It helps control the depth of the sealant, ensuring optimal performance. Suitable for both vertical and horizontal joints—both indoors and outdoors—it is ideal for use in industrial tile flooring, natural stone installations, precast concrete panels, and general building joints. Mapefoam is non-absorbent, easily compressible, and resistant to decay, ensuring that the sealant functions effectively over the long term.

    Mapefoam

Closed-Cell Polyethylene Foam Backer Rod for Joint Sealing Applications

Mapefoam is a closed-cell polyethylene foam backer rod used as a backing material in joints before applying flexible sealants. It helps control the appropriate sealant depth and ensures the correct joint geometry according to design requirements. It is suitable for both interior and exterior joint sealing applications, including vertical and horizontal joints.

The product is suitable for joints in industrial tiled floors, natural stone flooring, precast concrete panels, joints between building elements, and concrete floor joints requiring flexible sealants as the final sealing material.

Thanks to its closed-cell structure, Mapefoam does not absorb water and maintains its properties over time. The surface of the foam backer rod does not adhere to sealants, allowing the sealant to accommodate joint movement and perform effectively.

    Applications of Mapefoam

Mapefoam is suitable for use as a backing material in joint sealing applications such as:

    • Vertical and horizontal joints in both interior and exterior applications

    • Joints in industrial tiled floors

    • Joints in natural stone flooring

    • Joints between precast concrete panels

    • Joints between finishing elements and load-bearing structures

    • Joints between concrete floor slabs

    • General joints requiring flexible sealants

    Key Features of Mapefoam

    • Made from closed-cell polyethylene foam

    • Used as a backing material before applying sealants

    • Helps control the appropriate sealant depth

    • Does not absorb water

    • Flexible and easy to compress

    • Compression helps keep the foam backer rod securely positioned inside the joint

    • Non-adhering surface allows sealants to perform effectively

    • Resistant to deterioration and maintains its properties over time

    • Suitable for both interior and exterior applications

    Application Recommendations

The diameter of Mapefoam should be approximately 10–15% larger than the joint width to ensure that the foam backer rod fits securely inside the joint. For example, a joint measuring 12–13 mm wide should use Mapefoam with a diameter of 15 mm.

Before installation, the joint must be cleaned to remove dust, debris, and loose materials. Mapefoam should then be pressed gently into the joint, followed by the application of a suitable sealant from the MAPEI range.
