Mapecoat TNS Base Coat Binder

(+15% Vat Included)

Mapecoat TNS Base Coat Binder [NA] is a fast-drying acrylic latex base coat designed for surface preparation within the Mapecoat TNS sports flooring system. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, it can be applied to asphalt surfaces, concrete surfaces (pre-treated with Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW), and existing acrylic or polyurethane flooring systems that have been properly prepared. It helps conceal minor surface imperfections, enhances adhesion, and creates a flexible base layer prior to the application of subsequent Mapecoat TNS products. The binder can be mixed with sand to suit specific court surface conditions. It dries quickly—typically within 2–3 hours—and is ideal for sports flooring projects that require both durability and comfort.

Mapecoat TNS Base Coat Binder [NA]

Fast-Drying Acrylic Base Coat for Sports Surface Preparation in the Mapecoat TNS System

Mapecoat TNS Base Coat Binder [NA] is a 100% acrylic latex-based, flexible, fast-drying base coat designed for surface preparation before applying subsequent products in the Mapecoat TNS system. It helps prepare properly treated asphalt and concrete surfaces for subsequent coating applications.

The product is suitable for concealing minor surface irregularities and imperfections while enhancing the adhesion strength of sports flooring systems. When used in conjunction with other Mapecoat TNS products, it helps create durable and comfortable sports surfaces.

With its high acrylic polymer content, the product can be mixed with sand to accommodate existing sports surface conditions. It is therefore suitable for sports surface preparation, renovation of existing surfaces, and sports flooring systems requiring flexibility and good adhesion.

Applications of Mapecoat TNS Base Coat Binder [NA]

Mapecoat TNS Base Coat Binder [NA] is suitable for the following applications:

    • Used as a base coat for interior and exterior flooring applications

    • Used to prepare asphalt surfaces before applying subsequent Mapecoat TNS products

    • Used to prepare concrete surfaces previously primed with Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW

    • Used as a base coat over properly prepared existing acrylic or urethane surfaces

    • Used in Mapecoat TNS sports flooring systems to enhance surface durability and comfort during use

The product documentation specifies that suitable substrates include fully cured concrete and fully cured asphalt. Asphalt surfaces should undergo a curing period of approximately 15–20 sunny days at temperatures above 23°C.

Key Features of Mapecoat TNS Base Coat Binder [NA]

    • Helps conceal minor surface irregularities and imperfections

    • High acrylic polymer content allows mixing with sand to accommodate existing sports surface conditions

    • Provides high flexibility and elongation

    • Environmentally friendly product

    • Enhances adhesion within the Mapecoat TNS sports flooring system

    • Suitable for both interior and exterior applications

    • Fast drying, making it suitable for projects requiring continuous application

    • Compatible with the Mapecoat TNS system to create durable and comfortable sports surfaces

    Surface Preparation Recommendations

Substrates must be clean, sound, and free from dust, dirt, oil, grease, existing paint, concrete curing compounds, sealers, loose materials, or contaminants that may reduce product adhesion. Any holes, cracks, or major surface defects must be properly repaired and leveled before application.

Concrete substrates must be fully cured for at least 28 days and must be free from hydrostatic pressure or alkaline conditions that could affect the coating system. Concrete surfaces must always be primed with Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW before application. Mapecoat TNS Base Coat Binder [NA] should not be applied directly to concrete.

    Application Procedure Summary

Mapecoat TNS Base Coat Binder [NA] should be mixed with 50–60 mesh sand according to the mixing ratios specified in the product documentation. A low-speed mixer is recommended to ensure thorough mixing. After mixing with sand, up to approximately 20% water may be added, depending on the application method. The mixture should be stirred periodically during application to maintain a uniform consistency.

The product should be applied using a flexible rubber squeegee with a hardness of 50 or 70 durometer. The drying time is approximately 2–3 hours at 23°C and 50% relative humidity. Lower temperatures or higher humidity may extend the drying time.

    Mixing Ratios Summary

    • 5-gallon / 18.9-liter pail: Add 1.89–3.79 liters of water and 20.4–24.9 kg of sand.

    • 30-gallon / 114-liter drum: Add 22.7–26.5 liters of water and 136–181 kg of sand.

    • 55-gallon / 208-liter drum: Add 41.6–49.2 liters of water and 318–363 kg of sand.

These mixing ratios are based on one coat, as specified in the Mixing Ratios per Coat table in the product documentation.

    Approximate Coverage Rate

    For the undiluted product:

    • First Coat: Approximately 2.9–3.1 m²/L

    • Second Coat: Approximately 3.4–3.6 m²/L

Actual consumption may vary depending on substrate conditions and on-site application methods.

    Precautions

    • Do not apply when rain is imminent

    • Do not apply to wet or damp surfaces

    • Substrate temperature should be between 10°C and 60°C

    • Ambient temperature must not be below 10°C

    • Do not apply when relative humidity exceeds 85%

    • Concrete substrates must be primed with Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW before application

    • Do not install if the moisture vapor emission rate from the concrete substrate or the internal relative humidity of the concrete exceeds the limits specified in the product documentation
