Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW
Two-Component Water-Based Epoxy Primer for Mapecoat TNS Sports Flooring Systems
Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW is a two-component, water-dispersed epoxy primer with a solvent-free formulation. It is used as a primer to enhance the adhesion of sports flooring coating systems, particularly applications requiring subsequent coatings of acrylic or polyurethane resins.
The product is suitable for various substrates, such as deteriorated asphalt surfaces, cementitious substrates with residual moisture content not exceeding 3%, porous cementitious surfaces, existing resin-coated floors, PVC, linoleum, and high-performance prefabricated rubber mats such as Mapecomfort R.
Thanks to its water-based, solvent-free formulation, Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW is suitable for indoor applications. It helps ensure uniform adhesion of MAPEI sports flooring systems to substrates before applying subsequent coatings in the Mapecoat TNS system or specified PU products.
Applications of Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW
Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW is suitable for surface preparation applications such as:
Used as a primer for products in the Mapecoat TNS system
Used as a primer before applying PU Sealer 750, PU 700 SL, PU 800 SL FR, PU 200 Finish, and PU Gym Refresh / Mapecoat TNS Protection
Used as an adhesion promoter for flexible sports flooring systems
Used on deteriorated asphalt or bituminous substrates before applying acrylic or polyurethane resin coatings
Used on cementitious substrates with residual moisture content not exceeding 3%
Used on porous or absorbent cementitious substrates
Used to prepare existing surfaces, such as resin-coated floors, PVC, and linoleum, before installing new sports flooring systems
Used as a primer for high-performance prefabricated rubber mats, such as Mapecomfort R
Key Features of Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW
Two-component epoxy primer
Water-based and solvent-free formulation
Enhances adhesion of MAPEI sports flooring systems
Suitable for acrylic and polyurethane flooring systems
Compatible with various substrates, such as cementitious surfaces, asphalt, existing resin-coated floors, PVC, linoleum, and rubber mats
Can be applied to cementitious substrates with residual moisture content up to 3%
Helps ensure uniform adhesion of coating systems
Suitable for indoor applications due to its water-based and solvent-free formulation
Can be applied using a medium- or long-pile roller, spray equipment, or rubber squeegee
Surface Preparation Recommendations
Before application, the substrate must be smooth, clean, sound, and free from dust, dirt, oil, grease, release agents, wax, loose existing paint, or other contaminants that may reduce product adhesion.
If the concrete substrate is contaminated with oil or grease, the product documentation recommends cleaning it with water containing 10% soda or using a cleaning agent, followed by thorough rinsing with clean water. If contaminants have penetrated deeply into the substrate, the affected concrete must be removed using mechanical methods, such as scraping or chipping.
Cracks in concrete substrates should be repaired using epoxy resins such as Eporip, Eporip Turbo, or Epojet. Damaged concrete areas can be repaired using mortars from the Mapegrout or Planitop range before applying the primer.
For asphalt or bituminous substrates, cracks should be repaired using products from the Ultrabond Turf range. If the asphalt surface is severely damaged or heavily worn, the affected areas should be removed and repaired using Mapeasphalt Repair 0/8 before installing the flooring system.
Application Procedure Summary
Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW is a two-component product. Components A and B must be mixed together before application. The product documentation specifies a mixing ratio of A : B = 1 : 4. After mixing both components, dilute the mixture with water at a ratio of 1 : 0.5, then continue mixing for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous consistency is obtained.
The product can be applied in 1 or more coats, depending on the type and condition of the substrate, using a medium- or long-pile roller, spray equipment, or rubber squeegee. After applying the primer, allow it to dry completely before applying subsequent coating layers. The typical waiting time before recoating is approximately 5–6 hours at +23°C and 50% relative humidity.
Precautions
Do not dilute with solvents
Do not apply to deteriorated or unsound substrates
Do not apply when the temperature is below +8°C or above +35°C
Do not apply to cementitious substrates subject to rising moisture or with residual moisture content exceeding 3%
Do not mix partial quantities of the components, as this may result in incorrect mixing ratios and incomplete curing
Do not apply to surfaces contaminated with oil, grease, or dirt
After applying the primer, protect the surface from water exposure for at least 24 hours
Subsequent coatings should be applied within 24 hours. If this period is exceeded, the primer must be reapplied
Substrate temperature should be at least 3°C above the dew point
Approximate Consumption
Consumption depends on substrate absorbency, surface roughness, and application method. The product documentation specifies an approximate consumption rate of 0.1–0.2 kg/m² for the diluted product on uniform surfaces.
